Alcohol Stove Set with Pot
Pan and Windshield
689 grams

This alcohol stove set represents excellent value as it includes everything you need to cook using spirits/alcohol as the fuel. The fuel for this stove is readily available from most grocery stores and supermarkets. Because of this you no longer have to worry about where to go to get more gas for your stove. Another advantage of using alcohol stoves is you only have to take what you need, no more carry heavy gas cylinders. Therefore your pack weight will be lighter.

The most available source of fuel is methylated spirits however this does have a tendency to blacken the bottom of your pot. Because of this a cleaning cloth has been included in this stove set. For cooking without the soot we suggest using denatured alcohol however this can be harder to find. Follow this link for an example of denatured fuel which will work well with this stove.

How to Use an Alcohol Stove Set

  1. Lighting the Stove: Pour alcohol fuel into the stove and light it up. Wait for it to fully flare-up before placing your cooking pot on it.
  2. Wind Protection: Use a windscreen to protect the flame and direct heat towards the stove. This is essential for efficient cooking.
  3. Fuel Types: Methanol alcohol burns cleanest and hottest. However, you can use any alcohol that is above 70% alcohol content.
  4. Extinguishing: Snuff out the flame by depriving it of oxygen. A snuffer or your cooking pot lid can be used for this purpose.

Precautions

  1. Surface: Always cook on a non-flammable surface and ensure no flammable materials are nearby.
  2. Emergency Fire Extinguisher: Keep a full bottle of water nearby to put out fires if necessary.
  3. Visibility of Flame: Be mindful of the nearly invisible flame in daylight to avoid burns.
  4. Wind: Be cautious of wind conditions. If you cannot control the flame, do not use the stove.
  5. Fuel Addition: Never add fuel to a burning stove to avoid flare-ups.
  6. Ventilation: Never use your stove inside your tent or in an enclosed area without proper ventilation.
  7. Unattended Stove: Never leave a burning stove unattended.
  8. Handling: Wait for the stove to cool down before handling or storing it after use.

Additional Tips

  • Alcohol stoves are not as quick as other stoves, so they’re better suited for evening use when you’re not in a rush.
  • They are reliable and have been used by hikers for thousands of miles without failure.
  • While alcohol stoves are lightweight, remember that you’ll need to carry more fuel for longer trips, as they burn through fuel faster than traditional stoves.

By following these tips and precautions, you can safely and efficiently use an alcohol stove set on your outdoor adventures.
