Water Shoes Buyers Guide
These lightweight shoes provide basic foot protection during suitable shallow stream crossings, beach activities and short movements around wet campsites. Their flexible construction also allows them to pack into a tramping bag without taking up the space of regular footwear.
Choosing the Correct Size
Measure your foot from the back of the heel to the end of your longest toe. Compare that measurement with the table below. When your foot falls between two measurements, the larger option will generally provide a more comfortable fit.
| EU Size | Approximate Foot Length | Approximate Pair Weight |
|---|---|---|
| 38–39 | 24.5cm | 155g |
| 40–41 | 25.5cm | 175g |
| 42–43 | 26.5cm | 186g |
| 44–45 | 27.5cm | 201g |
Suitable Uses
The breathable mesh uppers allow water to enter and drain, so these shoes will not keep your feet dry. However, they can help protect against small stones, rough sand and suitable uneven surfaces during:
- Shallow stream crossings
- Beach and shoreline activities
- Kayaking and boating
- Wet campsites and hut facilities
- Short walks beside pools or swimming areas
Using Them During Stream Crossings
Check the depth, current and riverbed before entering the water. Step carefully because algae, mud, loose stones and wet rocks can still cause slips. These shoes provide additional grip, but they cannot make an unsafe crossing suitable.
Are They Suitable for Regular Hiking?
No. The thin, flexible design does not provide the structure, cushioning or ankle support required for normal tracks and longer walking distances. Carry them as secondary footwear and change back into supportive hiking shoes or boots after leaving the water.
Care After Use
Rinse away sand, mud and salt water after each trip. Allow the shoes to air-dry completely before storing them. Avoid placing them directly against heaters or other strong heat sources, which may damage the flexible materials.
