Tent accessories help improve how your shelter performs on the ground. They can make setup easier, protect your gear, and help you manage conditions more effectively during a trip.

Pegs are one of the most important items. They hold your shelter in place and keep tension on the fabric. Lightweight aluminium pegs suit most hiking use, although it is useful to carry a few spare pegs in case one bends or goes missing.

Groundsheets protect the base of your tent. They reduce wear from stones and grit while also helping keep the inside cleaner during pack-down. Smaller groundsheets suit lightweight setups, while larger ones give more coverage for gear and entry areas.

Lighting is another practical addition. LED lights can make it easier to move around camp, cook, or organise gear after dark. A compact light inside the tent often works better than relying only on a headlamp.

Floor insulation adds comfort and helps reduce cold transfer from the ground. Foam mats placed inside the tent can improve warmth, especially on cooler nights or damp ground. They also create a more stable base for sleeping mats.

When choosing tent accessories, focus on what solves a problem for your setup. For example, replace missing pegs first, then add a groundsheet if you want more protection. After that, consider lighting and insulation based on how and where you camp.
