Sleeping Bag Liners Buyers Guide

A sleeping bag liner creates a washable layer between you and your sleeping bag, helping reduce the amount of sweat, body oils and dirt transferred to the bag itself. It can also make a nylon-lined sleeping bag feel more comfortable against your skin.

The main differences between the sleeping bag liners on this page are weight, dimensions, fabric and warmth. The right choice depends largely on whether keeping pack weight down or adding extra comfort and insulation is more important.

For Keeping Pack Weight Down

The 205g Vuno SBL115 is the lightest liner in the range. It measures approximately 220 x 90cm and packs to around 16 x 6 x 6cm, making it particularly suitable for trampers who want a liner without adding much weight or bulk to their pack.

The 250g polyester pongee liners, available in blue or orange, measure approximately 210 x 70cm. These are another lightweight choice and suit users who do not require the additional width of the SBL115.

For More Room

The grey 320g liner is approximately 215 x 93cm including its pillow section and is the widest of the lightweight polyester options. Its 190T polyester pongee fabric also dries relatively quickly, making it a practical choice for camping, huts and travel.

The 500g stretch polyester liner measures approximately 200 x 80cm. Its elastic fabric provides more freedom of movement than a conventional non-stretch liner, so it may suit sleepers who dislike feeling restricted inside narrower liners.

For Extra Warmth and Softness

The 550g fleece liners are the warmth-focused option in this range. They use ultra-fine high-density fleece and measure approximately 180 x 80cm. They are heavier and bulkier than the polyester models, but the fleece feels softer against the skin and provides additional insulation inside a sleeping bag.

These are available in blue, brown and green. If warmth and comfort matter more than minimising pack weight, a fleece liner is likely to be the better choice.

Can a Sleeping Bag Liner Be Used on Its Own?

Several of the liners in this range can also be useful on their own in warm conditions, particularly inside huts or other sheltered accommodation. A liner should not, however, be treated as a substitute for a suitably rated sleeping bag when overnight temperatures are expected to become cold.

Looking After Your Liner

Cleaning the liner instead of frequently cleaning your sleeping bag can help simplify maintenance. Always follow the care instructions for the particular model. The polyester models can generally be washed in cold water, while the fleece liners are better suited to gentle hand washing.
